Ogun: Remo North APC Suspends Chairman Indefinitely

The leaders and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Remo North LGA of Ogun State have declared the indefinite suspension of LGA Party Chairman, Mr. Sobambo Ladejobi, from his position pending the outcome of investigations into several serious allegations made against him by numerous party members.

Ladejobi’s suspension followed a unanimous vote of no confidence passed during the statutory executive meeting of the local government’s party held at the APC Secretariat in Isara, Remo North. The meeting also announced that Ladejobi’s suspension is a follow-up to his earlier suspension by 24 out of 27 executive committee members of the APC in his home ward, Ward 6 (Akaka) Remo North LGA, over similar allegations.

The meeting, convened to address growing concerns over alleged failed and biased leadership under Sobambo Ladejobi, was called by the APC ward chairmen in Remo North, under the leadership of Hon. Tunde Sowole, the Chairman of Ward Chairmen.

The suspended chairman also faced accusations of engaging in anti-party activities during the 2023 General Election. Leaders and members at the meeting unanimously charged the Vice Chairman, Hon. Akinsipe Azeez, to assume the leadership of the APC in Remo North immediately.

Those present at the meeting included LGA Executive Committee members, Ward Executive Committee members, party leaders, and elders led by Chief Kolapo Ogunjobi, the Remo North Apex leader. APC leaders and stakeholders at the meeting discussed the party’s leadership performance and direction, as well as preparations for the upcoming local government elections.

In their remarks, the ward chairmen stated they had repeatedly called on Mr. Sobambo to convene an LG Exco meeting to discuss the modalities of implementing the election guidelines and preparing for other activities directed by the supreme organs of the party at the state level, but he failed to do so. This failure could potentially weaken the party’s strength and unity.

Given the many opinions, views, and allegations against the chairman, there was consensus on the need for stability and continuity within the party ahead of the upcoming elections.

Hon. Tunde Olonade, a party LG Executive member, and several others at the meeting called for the immediate removal of the LGA chairman, citing the need to fortify the APC in Remo North. As a result, Hon. Onasipe Taiwo, Ward 1 Chairman, moved a motion for Sobambo’s suspension as party chairman. The motion was seconded by Hon. Waheed Sopelola.

The process was closely monitored by the party organs at both the local government and ward levels, with a majority of members strongly endorsing the suspension. Nine ward chairmen present at the meeting, led by Hon. Tunde Sowole, later moved a motion that Vice Chairman Hon. Akinsipe Azeez should tentatively take up the party leadership. The motion was accepted and supported by the majority of the Exco present, who affirmed it with a show of hands and a voice vote to second the motion. In his acceptance speech, Akinsipe pledged to follow the rule of law and the party constitution in carrying out his duties.

Speaking at the close of the meeting, Chief Ogunjobi, who witnessed the process, commended members for adhering to the party constitution in all decisions taken, noting that the process was “100% according to laid-down procedures.”
