Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has praised the appointment of Usman Mohammed Shanawa-led Governing Council for the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, Ogun State, calling it the realization of a long-standing aspiration of stakeholders from Ogun State.
Senator Amosun, who sponsored the bill for the establishment of the University during his tenure representing Ogun Central Senatorial District in the 9th Assembly, expressed his gratitude in a message on Friday.
Amosun shared that, like many stakeholders, especially in Ogun Central, he is deeply satisfied with this development.
“The announcement of the Usman Mohammed Shanawa-led Governing Council for the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has fulfilled one of the core desires of stakeholders from Ogun State, particularly Abeokuta, where I had the privilege to serve as Governor (2011-2019) and Senator (2003-2007 and 2019-2023).
“With humility, I, like many others, feel greatly fulfilled by this positive development.
“I extend my sincere thanks to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for this decisive step in appointing a Governing Council to guide the new University.”
Amosun also expressed gratitude to former President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the bill into law, and to the leadership of the 9th Assembly for their dedication in making this vision a reality.
He further commended former Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, and congratulated all Ogun indigenes, particularly the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, for this achievement.
“My thanks also go to the former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, for approving the bill establishing the University. I commend the 9th National Assembly for their significant work on this legacy educational institution. Special recognition goes to Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, GCON, President of the 9th Senate, and Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, CFR, Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives.
