The former vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ahmed Buhari, has said the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, intends to contest for presidency in 2027.
Ahmed Buhari said this on Wednesday while speaking on Focus Nigeria, an AIT interactive program, monitored by our correspondents.
Buhari made this comment while discussing a proposed protest by Nigerians against hunger. He noted the presence of hunger in the country and criticized clerics advising against northerners protesting.
“There is a plan by clerics to deter people from following this route (protest),” he said.
He added that Islam was against oppression and not protest. Buhari stated that Islam allows people who are oppressed to rise and free themselves from oppression.
When the anchor mentioned, “The president appears to have made some concessions to the North because it appears as if the North is in arms against him with his planned protest because some northern politicians are meeting. Some northerners such as Shehu Sani have said they are meeting with the plan to unseat the president,” Buhari responded, “You will see that it’s politics. Very soon, you will see Seyi Makinde expressing his own intent to unseat him, because Seyi Makinde wants to be president from the South West. So it is all in the conversation.”
When asked if Makinde’s intention is for 2027, he replied, “Yes, for 2027.”
The ADC’s former vice presidential candidate said the economy has deteriorated, affecting the price of sachet water. He emphasized that the federal government must subsidize essentials like water.
On security, Buhari said President Tinubu has followed the pattern of former president, Muhammadu Buhari. He suggested that President Tinubu should have replaced some security chiefs given the current security issues.
The ADC chieftain mentioned that the local government autonomy granted through the Supreme Court ruling favored President Tinubu. He said the intention was to take power away from the state governors for 2027.
“I see President Tinubu taking power away from the state governors. If I can win the people at the grassroots, I don’t need the governors,” he stated.
Buhari concluded by expressing his hope that President Tinubu will succeed for the betterment of Nigeria and his family.
