Explosion Rocks Ikeja Army Cantonment

A minor explosion rattled the Nigerian Army (NA) Cantonment in Ikeja, Lagos, today, April 1, 2024, causing concern among residents.

According to reports from the Nigerian Army’s official Twitter handle, the incident occurred on a farmland near the Mammy Market within the Cantonment premises.

The explosion is believed to have been triggered by the burning of refuse and other flammable debris by a farmer tending to the farmland. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported as a result of the explosion.

In response to the incident, the NA Engineers Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team swiftly cordoned off the affected area to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the explosion.

This action aims to address any potential safety risks and to provide reassurance to residents in the vicinity.

While acknowledging the historical context of explosions within the Cantonment, the NA urges the public not to panic, emphasizing that the situation is under control. Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, affirmed the Army’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and the Cantonment’s surroundings.

The investigation into the cause of the explosion is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
