In a poignant narrative that unravels the twists of fate, Simon Faleye, the Personal Assistant to the late Herbert Wigwe, shares a gripping account of how a decision about luggage spared him from the tragic helicopter crash that claimed multiple lives, including his boss, Wigwe, and his family.
Speaking at the Night of Tributes, Faleye commenced with heartfelt tributes to Wigwe before delving into the pivotal moment that altered the course of his destiny.
Initially slated to fly alongside Wigwe and the others in the ill-fated chopper, Faleye disclosed that he chose to transport their luggage by road when it became apparent that the helicopter couldn’t accommodate it. Wigwe, acknowledging the practicality of the decision, gave his approval, commending Faleye’s quick thinking.
As Faleye embarked on the road journey with the luggage, Wigwe, his family, and Mr. Ogunbajo boarded the chopper to the same destination. Despite attempts to reach them during the journey, Faleye’s calls went unanswered.
Recounting an interaction with Mr. Bimbo, who contemplated joining the journey, Faleye cautioned him about the uncertainties of Wigwe’s travel plans. Despite his warnings, Mr. Bimbo chose to await their return.
During the flight, Faleye expressed his concerns about flying at night to Wigwe, who reassured him, citing the availability of navigation systems for night flights in America.
A critical moment arose as the luggage was being loaded. Faleye, pondering the logistics of flying with the luggage, made a decisive choice to travel separately to ensure its secure and timely delivery. Wigwe endorsed the idea, deeming it wise, and bid him a safe journey.
