Lagos Leads as Nigeria’s Internet Users Surge to 163.8 Million

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has released the latest data on internet usage in Nigeria, revealing a significant increase in the number of internet subscribers nationwide.

According to the NBS database accessed on Sunday, the total number of internet subscribers as of December 2023 reached a staggering 163.8 million. This surge indicates a remarkable growth in digital connectivity across the country, despite economic challenges such as the removal of subsidy and the floating of the naira.

Last year’s figures showed a rise from 154.8 million to 163.8 million internet users, marking a 9.07% increase in subscribers compared to the previous year (2021), which stood at 141.9 million.

For the fourth quarter of 2023, the NBS provided insights into the top ten states with the highest number of internet users in Nigeria:

  1. Lagos: 18.9 million internet users
  2. Ogun: 9.5 million internet users
  3. Kano: 9 million internet users
  4. Oyo: 8.4 million internet users
