The Iwalewa Autism Foundation commemorated World Autism Awareness Day 2025 with a strong commitment to promoting neurodiversity and aligning its advocacy efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event, themed “Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” gathered experts, caregivers, and stakeholders to foster greater inclusion and support for individuals on the autism spectrum.
Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ogun State, graced the event as the Special Guest of Honour. She stated the importance of full societal inclusion for children with autism, emphasizing their remarkable intelligence, whether in academics or specialized skills.
In her address, Hon. Adeleye urged participants to exercise patience and deeper engagement when interacting with neurodivergent children, stating, “By taking the time to understand these exceptional children, we can truly appreciate their unique abilities.”
She further called for a culture of empathy and acceptance, encouraging society to “see beyond limitations and embrace the potential within every neurodivergent child.”
She stressed that true inclusivity involves creating environments where children with autism can thrive, contribute meaningfully, and enjoy equal opportunities in all facets of life.
The Iwalewa Autism Foundation remains dedicated to fostering awareness and driving initiatives that support neurodivergent individuals, ensuring they receive the recognition and opportunities they deserve.
