Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has called for urgent action to enhance women’s leadership in business and economic development. She made this call while delivering the keynote address at the 2nd Annual Women in Business Luncheon organized by the Franco Nigeria Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI).
Speaking on the theme Advancing Women’s Leadership in Business and Economic Growth, Salako-Oyedele emphasized that women are not just participants in the economy but are key builders, innovators, and leaders. Drawing from her experience as an engineer, entrepreneur, and Deputy Governor, she highlighted persistent challenges that hinder women in business but reaffirmed that these obstacles can be overcome.
She outlined six key areas requiring immediate intervention:
Access to finance through government-backed loans, MSME support programs, and international partnerships.
Reducing unpaid care work by investing in childcare and workplace flexibility.
Expanding business networks and market access for women entrepreneurs.
Ensuring equal pay for equal work to promote fairness and equity.
Addressing gender-based violence to create safer business environments.
Creating leadership opportunities for women at all levels, from MSMEs to corporate boardrooms.
Salako-Oyedele also commended the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, noting that their administrations have been instrumental in promoting economic diversification and entrepreneurship. She cited initiatives such as the MSME Clinics, public-private partnerships, and financial support programs for female entrepreneurs in Ogun State as critical steps toward empowering women in business.
Calling for collective action, she urged business leaders to implement policies that promote women’s leadership, entrepreneurs to seize new opportunities, and policymakers to push for reforms that guarantee equal pay, financial inclusion, and workplace protections.
“When women succeed, economies flourish. It’s time to break barriers, close gaps, and lead with intention,” she concluded.
