Federalization of TASUED: A Clear Demonstration of Purposeful Governance – Rinsola Abiola

The Federal Government has officially adopted the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) as a federal institution, a historic move aimed at strengthening teacher education and expanding access to quality learning opportunities in Ogun State and across Nigeria.

Hon. Rinsola Abiola, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Citizenship & Leadership, hailed the decision as a testament to the Renewed Hope administration’s commitment to education. According to her, “Education is the foundation of national development, and the Renewed Hope administration has demonstrated unwavering dedication to strengthening this critical sector.”

She explained that the transition of TASUED into a federal university is “not just a reclassification; it is a bold step toward securing the institution’s future, ensuring sustainable funding, and fostering excellence in teacher training.”

As Nigeria’s first specialized university of education, TASUED plays a crucial role in training professional educators. With federal backing, Hon. Abiola noted that the institution would be better positioned to expand its programs, attract top-tier educators, and equip future teachers with cutting-edge knowledge and pedagogical skills. “The transition also ensures that the institution remains competitive and well-positioned to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s education sector,” she added.

Beyond improving teacher education, Hon. Abiola stated that the federalization of TASUED aligns with the government’s commitment to ensuring equal educational opportunities nationwide. “Federalization means TASUED can now cater to a more diverse student population, offering access to students from all parts of Nigeria and fostering national integration through education,” she said.

She also commended the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his role in facilitating the transition, describing his leadership as pivotal to the success of the initiative. “I must commend Governor Dapo Abiodun for his commitment to the advancement of education in Ogun State. His collaboration with the federal government on this matter is highly commendable and reflects his dedication to the development of the sector,” Hon. Abiola stated.

Furthermore, she highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership philosophy, which she said prioritizes innovation, inclusivity, and long-term impact in education. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision reflects a leadership philosophy that prioritizes innovation, inclusivity, and long-term impact. His administration’s educational policies are not just about establishing new institutions; they focus on strengthening existing ones to meet the demands of the 21st century,” she explained.

Hon. Abiola described the federalization of TASUED as “a clear demonstration of purposeful governance—one that benefits Ogun State, the teaching profession, and the entire country.”

With this transition, TASUED is expected to experience significant growth, benefiting from increased federal funding and expanded academic opportunities while contributing more effectively to Nigeria’s educational system.
