Adeleye: Inclusive governance key to protecting rights of women, children, and PWDs

The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ogun State, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, has reaffirmed Ogun State’s unwavering commitment to promoting the rights, welfare, and protection of women, children, and persons with disabilities as she participates in the 2nd Annual Conference of Commissioners of State Ministries of Women Affairs.

The conference, organised by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme, is part of activities marking the 2025 International Women’s Day celebration. Themed “Sub-national Policy and Practice for Enhancing Rights, Protection, and Justice for Women, Children, and Persons with Disabilities,” the event is holding at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, drawing key players from across the country to review policies, share best practices, and develop sustainable strategies to enhance the protection and welfare of vulnerable groups.

Speaking on the significance of the conference, Hon. Adeleye said, “This gathering provides a unique opportunity for us to critically examine the gaps in policy implementation at the sub-national level and collectively chart a course that ensures every woman, child, and person with disability enjoys equal rights, protection, and access to justice across Nigeria.”

The Commissioner, alongside senior management staff of the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, engaged in high-level discussions that explored national and state-level legal and policy frameworks designed to safeguard the rights of vulnerable groups. Participants also examined case studies of failed public service interventions, using them as learning tools to strengthen governance processes and enhance service delivery.

Reflecting on the importance of collaboration, Hon. Adeleye noted, “It is through open dialogue, shared experiences, and strategic partnerships that we can develop practical solutions that will make policies impactful at the grassroots level, where they matter most.”

She emphasized that the knowledge gained from the conference would directly influence ongoing programmes in Ogun State, particularly in driving reforms aimed at creating a safer, more inclusive society where all citizens—regardless of gender, age, or ability—are valued and protected.

“As a state, we are intentional about building policies and programmes that are not just paper-based but truly transformative. We will continue to leverage platforms like this to ensure Ogun State remains at the forefront of inclusive governance and sustainable development,” Adeleye added.

Hon. Adeleye further reaffirmed her dedication to amplifying the voices of women, children, and persons with disabilities, ensuring their needs and aspirations are prioritized in governance decisions. “Our mission is clear—to build a society where no one is left behind,” she concluded.
