EFCC Dismisses 27 Officers for Fraudulent Activities, Misconduct

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed 27 officers in 2024 over allegations of fraudulent activities and misconduct. This decision was approved by the EFCC’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, following the recommendation of the Staff Disciplinary Committee.

In a press statement released by the Commission on January 6, 2025, Mr. Olukoyede emphasized the EFCC’s commitment to zero tolerance for corruption within its ranks. He warned that no officer is immune to disciplinary measures, and all allegations against staff members would be thoroughly investigated. This includes a trending claim involving $400,000 allegedly linked to a Sectional Head by an unidentified EFCC staff.

“The core values of the Commission are sacrosanct and would always be held in optimal regard at all times,” Olukoyede reiterated.

The EFCC also raised alarm over the activities of impersonators and blackmailers who use the Executive Chairman’s name to extort money from individuals under investigation. Recently, two members of an alleged syndicate, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim, were arraigned before Justice Jude Onwuebuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja. The duo reportedly contacted a former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Mohammed Bello-Kaka, demanding $1 million for a “soft landing” on a non-existent investigation.

The Commission stressed that such individuals remain a threat, urging the public to report any such fraudulent activities. Mr. Olukoyede reaffirmed his integrity, declaring that he would not be influenced by monetary inducements.

Furthermore, the EFCC disclosed ongoing efforts by certain individuals to blackmail its officers. The statement noted that suspects being investigated for economic and financial crimes often resort to blackmail when unable to compromise investigators. The public was urged to disregard such attempts and to support the Commission in its fight against corruption.

The EFCC remains steadfast in its mission to uphold integrity and ensure accountability within its ranks and across society.
