Man Arrested for Stealing Goat for Daughter’s Naming Ceremony in Ogun

Officers of the Odeda Division of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended Akintoye Waris for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat worth N200,000 to celebrate his child’s naming ceremony.

The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosed on Saturday that Waris was arrested on January 2, 2025, in the Odeda area of the state, along with his accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf.

The suspects reportedly trespassed onto a farm in the area, ensuring that the farm owner, identified only as Mark, had taken the cattle out for grazing on December 25.

According to Odutola, the farm owner discovered one of the goats missing upon his return and initiated a community-wide search.

During the search, some residents reportedly informed the police that they had spotted the suspects transporting the missing goat on a motorcycle toward Olodo town.

Acting on the tip-off, detectives were deployed, leading to the arrest of the suspects in the early hours of January 2, 2025.

Odutola stated, “During questioning, the suspects admitted to the theft, revealing how they stole, transported, and later slaughtered the he-goat on December 27, 2024.

“They claimed the goat was used to prepare meals for Akintoye Waris’s daughter’s naming ceremony held in Olodo.”

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. Odutola assured residents that they would face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation and promised to provide updates as the case progresses.
