The Lagos State Government has provided compensation to 150 landowners whose properties were acquired for public development projects.
During the cheque presentation on Tuesday in Alausa, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the gesture as fulfilling the promise of fair compensation to citizens whose lands were utilized for the state’s growth.
“Today, we conducted a symbolic public presentation of cheques to 150 beneficiaries who have been compensated for lands acquired by the Lagos State Government in the interest of public good.
“This underscores our dedication to fair compensation and the importance of engaging communities in developmental projects that advance the state,” the governor stated.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the compensations were tied to key infrastructure projects aimed at boosting urban mobility and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
“These projects are more than just infrastructure—they reflect our ongoing commitment to Lagos State’s development,” he said in a statement shared on X.
The government’s land acquisitions impacted six areas: Orile, Badagry, Katangura, Oyingbo Ultra Bus Terminal, Pen Cinema, Bus Terminal Abule Egba, and Maryland.
Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Land Bureau, Kamar Olowoshago, expressed gratitude to the governor and the landowners for their collaborative efforts.
Olowoshago explained that the lands acquired enabled the execution of projects fostering a more efficient, organized, and economically vibrant environment for residents.
These initiatives, according to him, align with the state’s goals in urban renewal, transport modernization, job creation, and public safety, underscoring the administration’s commitment to comprehensive development and better living standards.
“We appreciate the significant role beneficiaries have played in realizing these projects. By allowing the State Government to use your lands for the greater good, you’ve contributed to our shared goal of a livable and thriving Lagos,” Olowoshago added.
