Manchester United Names Ruben Amorim as New Manager

Amorim, who emerged as the leading choice to replace former manager Erik ten Hag, is set to join United after they activated his €10m (£8.4m) release clause from Sporting CP.

A club statement reads: “Manchester United is thrilled to announce Ruben Amorim as Head Coach of the men’s first team, pending work visa requirements.

“He will lead the club until June 2027, with an option for an additional year, after he concludes his commitments with Sporting CP. Amorim is scheduled to start at Old Trafford on Monday, 11 November.

“Ruben is among the most promising young managers in European football, with numerous accolades as both a player and coach. His achievements include two Primeira Liga titles with Sporting CP, ending the club’s 19-year wait for a league title with his first win.

“Until Ruben’s arrival, Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue as interim manager.”
