The event, aimed at fostering collaborations among stakeholders to address Nigeria’s food security issues, is scheduled for Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the Cinema Hall, June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, beginning at 10.00am.

In a statement jointly signed by Mrs. Oluwaseun Boye, Chairperson, and Mr. Kunle Olayeni, Secretary of Ogun NIPR, it was revealed that Governor Dapo Abiodun would serve as the Special Guest of Honour.

The statement further mentioned that the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Olusola Kehinde, would be the Lead Speaker, while the event would also feature agripreneur Mr. Olakunle Osunsanya, public relations expert Mr. Ayodele Ishola, and chartered accountant Dr. Gbenga Adeoye as panelists.

Additionally, the Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, is expected to deliver the keynote address at the colloquium, which will attract key figures from both the public and private sectors in the food production industry, within and outside the state.

“The 2024 Annual Colloquium will focus on the role of public relations in addressing Nigeria’s food crisis, exploring strategies for public-private partnerships, agricultural development, and effective communication,” the statement read.

Governor Abiodun will be recognized with a Distinguished Award in acknowledgment of his administration’s substantial efforts and investments in the agricultural sector, particularly for promoting food security in Ogun State.

Similarly, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), will receive an Award of Excellence for its notable contributions in Corporate Social Responsibility, including teaching, research, and extension services.

Among other honourees slated for recognition at the event for their significant contributions to agriculture and food production in Nigeria are Obasanjo Farms Nigeria Limited, owned by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Mr. Adewole Fatokun, Managing Director of Agrochemical Limited, and Mr. Samson Ogbole, Team Lead of Soilless Farm Lab.

The statement concluded: “With this year’s Colloquium, Ogun NIPR aims to support the ongoing discourse on food security in Nigeria, showcasing public relations as a vital tool in tackling this pressing national issue.”

“We believe the proper identification of key players in the agricultural value chain, along with effective communication of new ideas and technical advice, and fostering a supportive environment for farmers and agribusinesses are critical steps in addressing Nigeria’s food crisis.”

“The Colloquium is Ogun NIPR’s flagship event, consistently used to raise awareness and set an agenda for essential action. This year’s edition promises to provide an engaging platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas and best practices.”
