LG Polls: Ogun Residents Will Reject APC’s Hardship, Inflation Nov. 16 – Segun Showunmi

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairmanship aspirant, Otunba Segun Showunmi, expressed confidence that Ogun State residents will vote against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming local government elections due to hardship, inflation, and the rising exchange rate.

Showunmi argued that the APC government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has caused severe poverty for Nigerians and no longer deserves votes at the grassroots level.

According to him, Ogun residents should embrace a better alternative by choosing PDP in the November 16, 2024 local government polls, which will serve as a direct response to APC’s poor governance in the state.

The outspoken PDP leader made these remarks during the party’s State Congress at Abeokuta Sports Club over the weekend.

He stated that the party is prepared for the council elections, expressing hope that the state’s electoral body, OGSIEC, will conduct a fair and credible process.

He said, “It’s senseless for people to endure this level of severe poverty, extreme hardship, skyrocketing food prices, high inflation, soaring exchange rates, and rising petrol costs. And now, we’re told that, even at these prices, there’s still talk of subsidy removal. If the people don’t seize the local government election as a chance to send a strong message to APC members that enough is enough, I’m unsure what else can be done.

“For PDP, we’re ready. We’ll present capable candidates who live among the people, are kind, empathetic, and eager to serve.

“But until we complete the local government election, you will judge whether OGSIEC can meet the minimum credibility standards.”
