Court Grants Bristol N5 Million Bail with One Surety

Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Isaac Bristol, identified by the police as the whistleblower behind the PIDOMNigeria account on X.

Justice Emeka Nwite approved a N5 million bail for Bristol, with one surety in the same amount.

The ruling followed a motion on notice filed by Deji Adeyanju, who led Bristol’s legal team.

A motion on notice is a formal request to the court to take a specific action or make a particular decision.

In this case, Adeyanju’s team submitted the motion, and Justice Nwite issued a ruling after considering the presented arguments and evidence.

Nwite further ordered that the defendant must surrender his passport to the court.

Additionally, the surety must reside in Abuja, provide a sworn affidavit of means, and submit three years’ tax clearance certificates along with two passport-sized photographs.

Bristol, who has been held at the Kuje Correctional Centre since September 11, faces charges of treason, for allegedly mobilising and encouraging actions to “unduly pressure” the government through the #EndBadGovernance protests, making false money-laundering accusations against President Bola Tinubu, and unlawfully obtaining and sharing classified documents, violating the Official Secrets Act of 1962.
