NUC Approves B.Sc Cybersecurity, B.Sc Software Engineering, and 6 Other New Courses at FUNAAB

In a bid to expand its academic portfolio and address the rising demand for higher education among Nigerian youths, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved eight new programmes at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

These programmes are set to commence in the 2024/2025 Academic Session, positioning FUNAAB to compete globally.

The approved programmes include Bachelor of Library and Information Science (B.LIS), B.Sc. Data Science, B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Information Systems, and B.Sc. Software Engineering. Additional programmes are B.Sc. Information and Communication Technology, B.Sc. Information Technology, and B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry.

Six of these programmes fall within the Computer Science discipline, prompting the creation of three new Departments to accommodate two programmes each.

This expansion demonstrates FUNAAB’s dedication to developing expertise in high-demand fields like Data Science, Cyber Security, and Software Engineering, critical to today’s digital economy.

With these advancements, FUNAAB is well-positioned to offer students cutting-edge skills and prepare them to contribute to Nigeria’s technological and industrial sectors.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde expressed his appreciation to the Ag. Executive Secretary of the NUC, Dr. Chris Miyaki, for endorsing the programmes following a thorough Resource Verification Exercise.
