Ogun LG Polls: OGSIEC Extends Primaries to Sept 19, Lowers Nomination Fees

The Federal Government’s declaration of a public holiday on Monday, 16th September 2024, has led the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) to extend the deadline for party primaries in preparation for the Local Government elections.

Political parties, citing a tight schedule, voiced concerns that the holiday would impact their ability to effectively organize primaries, pushing for a minor extension of the electoral timetable.

In response, OGSIEC has announced a new deadline for party primaries, now set for Thursday, 19th September 2024, allowing parties additional time.

The commission has also extended the collection window for Personal Data Forms CF001 and CF002 to Monday, 23rd September 2024, ensuring parties can finalize their paperwork.

Moreover, OGSIEC has lowered nomination fees: chairmanship candidates now pay N200,000 instead of N250,000, male councillorship candidates will pay N100,000, while female candidates will pay N50,000. The election, however, remains scheduled for 16th November 2024.
