Update: President Tinubu Set to Dismiss Ministers This Week

Barring any last-minute changes, President Bola Tinubu is expected to dissolve his cabinet this week.

According to a senior source close to the presidency, this move “is intended to introduce new faces who can inject the required energy into the cabinet.” The president, having just returned from China, is likely to head to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York next week.

The source further indicated that President Tinubu may dissolve the cabinet before departing for the U.S.

It is understood that the president is aware of the public criticism surrounding some of the ministers and the complaints regarding their performance. He is said to be ready to address these concerns and boost the effectiveness of his administration.

The president is reportedly keeping the specifics of the dissolution and the list of ministers to be removed strictly confidential among his close aides.

“President Tinubu is not satisfied with the performance of several of his ministers and intends to show them the exit,” the source revealed, noting that replacements for the departing ministers are already lined up.

“Upon his return from UNGA, the president will reconstitute the cabinet,” the source added.

When asked if the recent resignation of presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale is related to the shake-up, the source clarified that Ngelale’s departure is unrelated to the upcoming cabinet changes.

Sources have also hinted that a former minister from the Buhari administration may be among the new ministerial nominees.
