Timeless Update reports that over 30 individuals have been confirmed dead following a petrol tanker explosion in Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State.
The tanker allegedly collided with a trailer truck carrying passengers and livestock from Wudil, Kano State.
Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) Director-General Abdullahi Baba-Arab disclosed this in a Sunday statement, noting that the incident took place at around 12:30 a.m. along the Lapai-Agaie road, about 2km from Dendo village in Agaie LGA.
Baba-Arab revealed that over 50 cows were also incinerated, with two other vehicles—a crane truck and a pickup van—affected by the fire.
The NSEMA statement read: “NSEMA received a report of a fatal tanker explosion that occurred on Sunday, 8th September 2024, around 12:30 a.m. along the Lapai-Agaie road, 2km from Dendo village in Agaie LGA.
“The incident happened when a petrol tanker carrying PMS collided with a trailer transporting passengers and livestock from Wudil, Kano State, en route to Lagos. Two other vehicles, including a crane truck and a pickup van, were also involved.
“Over 30 individuals have been confirmed dead, and more than 50 cattle were burnt in the fire. NSEMA’s Rapid Response Team (RRT), working with local authorities, continues search and rescue operations, as some victims remain trapped inside the vehicles,” the statement concluded.
