Ogun NASS Members Inspect Customs School, Commend Abiodun’s Progress

Members of the Ogun State caucus in the National Assembly have commended Governor Dapo Abiodun’s efforts in driving development, particularly in positioning the state as a global aviation hub.

Speaking after touring the ongoing Nigeria Customs Training School at the Gateway International Airport on Ilishan-Iperu Road in Ikenne Local Government Area, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salis, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, praised the governor for facilitating the establishment of the Customs Training School in the state.

Senator Salis noted that the establishment of the school signals that the state is on the right path and emphasized that the project’s benefits would be long-lasting.

He said, “We are here to observe the progress of this project, and I must say we are highly impressed. We want to fully appreciate this significant project initiated by Governor Dapo Abiodun. You can see how well the customs project complements the Gateway International Airport.

“We are also here as National Assembly members and representatives of Ogun State to explore how we can support this federal project located in our state. We aim to provide support through funding and recommendations to ensure its timely completion. We are also here to gather insights on how to improve the project and to thank the governor for elevating our state on the global aviation map and now enhancing it with the Customs institution.”

The senator also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the world-class Customs institution’s establishment in the state, stating that it not only aligns with the Abiodun administration’s development goals but also promotes the state on a global scale.

“We have provided some recommendations to the contractor and expressed our satisfaction with the project’s use of local resources. When we return, we will meet with the Comptroller General of Customs to assure him of our continued support,” he added.

He urged the contractor to incorporate green energy, digital compliance, and modern technology in the project to benefit future generations.

Also speaking, Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga, representing Ikenne and Sagamu Federal Constituency, expressed gratitude to the governor for his forward-thinking vision, noting that the project, once completed, would be the largest of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa and comparable to similar institutions worldwide.

While thanking the local community for cooperating with the contractor, Hon. Onanuga commended them for engaging with the project by taking up employment opportunities, which would enhance their economic standing.

In his remarks, Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, representing Yewa North/Imeko Afon Federal Constituency, recognized the governor’s role in bringing the project to the state, expressing confidence that its impact would be felt not only locally but throughout the entire state and the country.

Other members of the delegation included Hon. Joseph Adegbesan, Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka, Hon. Tunji Akinosi, and Hon. Femi Ogunbanwo.
