Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, has paid glowing tribute to the late Chief Olatunde Ayinla Abudu, the Mayegun of Egbaland, who passed away on June 9, 2025, at the age of 95.  

Senator Salisu, who also serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, described Chief Abudu as a “great society builder” whose impactful legacies will endure for generations. The senator conveyed his condolences in a heartfelt statement, extolling the late industrialist and philanthropist’s contributions to education, healthcare, and economic development in Ogun State and beyond.

The senator also attended the Evening of Tribute organized by the Abeokuta Club, where he joined other dignitaries in celebrating the life and times of the departed patriarch. Chief Abudu, a pioneer member and Life President of the club was remembered as a humble yet influential leader who shaped Egbaland’s industrial and social landscape.

In his tribute, Senator Salisu recounted his personal interactions with the late Mayegun, praising his integrity, generosity, and unwavering commitment to community development. He noted that Chief Abudu’s industries along the Abeokuta-Sango-Lagos Road served as both an economic hub and a symbol of inspiration for young people in the region.

“The passing of Chief Olatunde Abudu leaves a void in our hearts, but his legacies—ranging from educational scholarships to healthcare interventions—will continue to uplift countless lives,” Senator Salisu stated. “We take solace in the fact that he lived a fulfilled life and left behind a family that embodies his values.”

The senator prayed for the repose of Chief Abudu’s soul and urged the family to uphold his noble ideals. The event, attended by prominent Egba leaders, further highlighted the late chief’s enduring impact on Abeokuta’s socio-economic growth.

Chief Abudu is survived by a distinguished family, including children and grandchildren who continue to uphold his philanthropic vision.
