The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Ogun State, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, has extended a heartfelt commendation to renowned lawyer and gender rights advocate, Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, on her conferment of the prestigious
Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) National Honour by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, during the 2025 Democracy Day celebration.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry, the Commissioner described Dr. Akiyode-Afolabi as “a woman of immense courage, intellect, and conviction,” whose lifetime of advocacy has elevated her as a beacon of hope for the marginalized, especially women and girls across Nigeria. She emphasized that her leadership at the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC) has had a lasting impact on national discourse around gender equity, human rights, and social justice.
The Commissioner further noted with pride that Dr. Akiyode-Afolabi remained a distinguished indigene of the State, whose remarkable achievements have brought honour not only to the State but to womanhood as a whole, adding that heritage travel consistent advocacy and courageous voice have paved the way for gender inclusion, legislative reforms, and community transformation, making her a shining example of purpose-driven leadership.
Acknowledging her influence both nationally and internationally, the Commissioner lauded Dr. Akiyode-Afolabi’s consistent contributions to student safety, public accountability, and women’s political participation, adding that her scholarly work and policy engagements have promoted inclusive governance and advanced the cause of justice and equity through research, activism, and public engagement.
