Senator Yayi Empowers Thousands in Imeko-Afon, Reaffirms Commitment to Ogun West Development

In a vibrant display of grassroots engagement and community empowerment, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations and Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, held the 2nd Edition of the Ogun West Town Hall Meeting, Mega Empowerment, and Thank You Tour on Friday, April 25, 2025, at AUD Primary School, Imeko.

Speaking to thousands of constituents, Senator Adeola assured the people that “his best is yet to come,” reaffirming his commitment to delivering impactful and inclusive representation. The event saw the empowerment of over 4,000 artisans, market women, and youths, many of whom had received skills training in ICT, vocational trades, and entrepreneurship.

He emphasized that the empowerment drive—part of the Renewed Hope Agenda—is being decentralized across the five LGAs in Ogun West, ensuring wider access to benefits and deeper community impact. Beneficiaries in Imeko-Afon received items including:

• 10 mini buses

• 37 tricycles

• 50 motorcycles

• 399 sewing machines

• 80 deep freezers

• 107 grinding machines

• cash grants, and much more.

In less than two years, Senator Yayi has facilitated 272 infrastructure projects in Ogun West, covering roads, schools, markets, ICT centers, health facilities, transformers, and street lights. In Imeko-Afon alone, dozens of projects were completed or are ongoing, including:

• 12 major road construction projects

• Multiple solar street light installations

• Provision of 500kva transformers to several communities

• Construction of schools, ICT centers, healthcare centers, markets, and even a police station

The Senator also highlighted his legislative performance, with 10 bills sponsored and 3 key motions passed, including:

• Motion for fuel supply restoration in border towns

• Motion for urgent repairs of Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta road

• Motion defending the integrity of the 2024 Appropriation Act

He further noted that over 20,000 constituents have received various forms of skills training and that over 5,000 students have benefitted from bursaries and scholarships.

 

Senator Adeola expressed hope that the empowered individuals would build sustainable livelihoods and urged beneficiaries to resist selling their tools, emphasizing the importance of starting small and growing big.

The event’s high point was the presentation of start-up equipment and grants to trained participants. It also showcased Senator Yayi’s clear vision for long-term development and his preparedness for future leadership roles, as he continues to serve with purpose, passion, and integrity.
