Ogun Govt Launches Cluster Model to Revolutionize Aquaculture as 700 Farmers Gear Up for Over ₦1 Billion Harvest

The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has flagged off the fish harvest for the Trusted Fish Farmers Cluster in Ewupe, Ota, representing Governor Dapo Abiodun at the milestone event.

In a statement released on her official Facebook page, Salako-Oyedele described the cluster as “a shining example of what focused investment and partnership can achieve through the World Bank supported Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP).”

The cluster, which comprises approximately 700 farmers managing nearly 1,000 fish ponds across six locations, is set to generate significant economic value. According to the Deputy Governor, “Each farmer received input support worth over ₦864,000 and is projected to earn an average profit of ₦1.3 million from this harvest.” She noted that the farmers are expected to reinvest their profits, fostering long-term sustainability.

With over 700 tons of fish expected to be harvested—valued at an estimated ₦1.9 billion—the initiative promises a strong boost to local livelihoods. “We are also providing smoking kilns to the cluster and working with the Ministry of Agriculture to develop a Processing Zone that will boost value addition,” she added.

“This is how we grow Ogun State; one cluster, one farmer, one community at a time,” Salako-Oyedele emphasized, while extending appreciation to the Ewupe community for their support and hospitality.
