Speaker Tajudeen Abbas Disburses ₦5 Billion in Scholarships, Reaffirms Commitment to Education

ZARIA, Nigeria — In a landmark event held at the newly established Federal University of Education in Zaria, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, disbursed ₦5 billion in scholarships to 30,000 students from the North-West geopolitical zone.

The scholarships, ranging from ₦200,000 to ₦800,000 per recipient, were distributed to students across Jigawa, Zamfara, Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, Kano, and Katsina States. Describing the moment as “emotional and historic,” Speaker Abbas emphasized that the initiative was more than just financial aid—it is a strategic investment in the future of the region and the nation.

“This is what public service should feel like—impactful and transformational,” Abbas stated, recalling the joyful reactions of students as they received payment alerts.

The event comes just days after the Speaker empowered constituents with 117 vehicles, 200 tricycles, and 1,000 motorcycles, underscoring what many observers have described as an unprecedented drive to uplift communities across the region.

The scholarship program prioritizes critical fields such as Medicine, Engineering, Law, and Technology. According to Abbas, these sectors are key to driving Nigeria’s future growth and development.

In addition to the scholarship disbursement, Speaker Abbas announced plans to construct a modern orphanage in Zaria. He described the project as a “sanctuary of love, education, and care” for vulnerable children, further solidifying his commitment to social welfare.

The Speaker’s long-standing passion for education is evident in his previous initiatives, which include sponsoring 8,000 students for WAEC, NECO, and JAMB, as well as the proposed ₦80 billion Education Village in Zaria—a massive education hub set to benefit students nationwide.

“With gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani for their unwavering support, we’re not done yet,” Abbas affirmed. “The future is bright. Let’s build it together.”

He concluded with a heartfelt message to the beneficiaries: “Study hard, soar high, and never forget the hopes riding on your success. The North-West, and indeed Nigeria, is counting on you.”
