Ilorin, Nigeria – April 13, 2025 — The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of popular Nigerian musician, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, widely known as Portable, over allegations of criminal defamation and other related offences.
According to an official press statement released on Saturday, April 13, 2025, by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the arrest followed a petition submitted by one Mr. Okunola Saheed, popularly known as “Osupa.” The petition detailed serious accusations including criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, character assassination, and the use of abusive and insulting language, which allegedly posed a risk to public peace.
In response to the allegations, police detectives from the Kwara State Command initiated an investigation and subsequently secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin.
Acting on the warrant, operatives proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun State, where Portable was apprehended at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Saturday. He was immediately transferred to Ilorin for further questioning and legal procedures.
The police statement noted that Portable’s statement was obtained in the presence of legal representatives from both parties. He is currently in custody as authorities make arrangements to formally charge him in court.
The Kwara State Police Command emphasized its commitment to upholding justice and the rule of law while urging the public to remain calm and avoid the spread of unverified information.
