Gateway Progressive Youths Applaud Rinsola Abiola for Promoting Youth Leadership and Civic Engagement

The Gateway Progressive Youths (GPY) has commended Rinsola Abiola, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Citizenship and Leadership, for successfully organizing a Ramadan lecture and Iftar at Spices Hall, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta. The event, which took place on March 23, 2025, centered around the theme “Islamic Perspective on Youth Development and Leadership.”

Rinsola Abiola, who is also the founder of the Rinsola Abiola Foundation, used the event as an opportunity to engage youths on critical issues of leadership, civic responsibility, and national development. In his remarks, Olufemi Bashorun, the coordinator of Gateway Progressive Youths, urged young Nigerians to actively engage in leadership roles and be involved in civic activities to drive progress in the nation.

The event was attended by several notable figures, including Hon. Adijat Adeleye, the Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs, and Comrade Surajudeen Aremu, APC Youth Leader in Ogun State. The Chairman of APC in Abeokuta North Local Government, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi Akintunde, and Mahmud Salako, son of Ogun State’s Deputy Governor, were also present to lend their support to the initiative.

Imam Mudashiru Abdulrasheed, who was represented by Prof. Kamaldeen Balogun, delivered a thought-provoking lecture, emphasizing the role of Islam in shaping responsible and effective leaders. The discourse was well-received by attendees, who expressed their appreciation for the focus on youth empowerment within an Islamic framework.

The Group’s Director of Publicity, Olamide David, praised the initiative, calling for its continuity to ensure sustained youth development in Ogun state and beyond. “This event is a testament to the importance of youth leadership and the role of civic engagement in building a better future for our country,” David said.

As the event concluded, the Gateway Progressive Youths expressed hope that Rinsola Abiola’s efforts would inspire other youth leaders to continue advocating for meaningful change through leadership and community participation. The group also reiterated its commitment to working alongside the government and organizations like the Rinsola Abiola Foundation to foster positive transformation within the youth demographic.

The successful hosting of the Ramadan lecture highlights the growing momentum of youth-driven initiatives in Nigeria and emphasizes the need for continuous collaboration between young people, religious leaders, and policymakers for the greater good of the nation.
