The Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has intervened in cases of child abuse, rescuing victims and ensuring legal action against perpetrators.
According to a statement by the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, “As part of our unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and responding swiftly to cases of child abuse, the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has once again taken decisive action to rescue victims and ensure that perpetrators face the full weight of the law.”
She disclosed that the ministry recently rescued a four-year-old boy in Igboko, Ado-Odo/Ota, who was “brutally assaulted by his father.” The child has since been placed under the ministry’s protective custody, receiving “comprehensive medical care and emotional support.” Meanwhile, the alleged perpetrator is “currently in police custody with all necessary legal arrangements underway to ensure justice is served.”
In a related case, the commissioner revealed that the ministry’s rescue team intervened in Adamo, Ikorodu, where a school headmaster allegedly assaulted a young female pupil. “While the perpetrator is presently within police custody, we are following up on the rescued child and mother for necessary attention and further action,” she stated.
Adeleye reassured the public that the Dapo Abiodun-led administration remains committed to combating gender-based violence and child abuse. “We reaffirm that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration will continue to maintain zero tolerance for gender-based violence, child abuse, and other forms of domestic abuse,” she said.
She urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report cases of abuse using the ministry’s toll-free emergency lines: 08000000666 and 08000000555. “Together, we can create a safer and more just society where every child is protected, valued, and given the opportunity to thrive,” she concluded.
