Salako-Oyedele Pays Tribute to Late Lawmaker ‘Ijaya’

The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele FNSE, has expressed profound sadness over the death of her close friend and colleague, Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives and representative of the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency.

 

In a statement, Engr. Salako-Oyedele described the passing of Rt. Hon. Onanuga, fondly called “Ijaya,” as a monumental loss to Ogun State, the National Assembly, and Nigeria as a whole.

 

“I received with immense sadness the news of the passing of my friend and sister, Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives and a distinguished representative of the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency,” the Deputy Governor stated.

 

She highlighted the remarkable contributions of the late lawmaker, describing her as a trailblazer whose intellect, passion, and dedication to service left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political and social landscape.

 

“Rt. Hon. Onanuga, who we all fondly called ‘Ijaya,’ was a relentless advocate for women empowerment, a committed legislator, and a dependable leader whose impactful contributions to legislative processes were driven by her vision for a better Nigeria,” she added.

 

Engr. Salako-Oyedele recounted Onanuga’s journey from Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development in the 9th Assembly to her current role as Deputy Chief Whip in the 10th Assembly. She praised her resolve and dedication to public service, emphasizing that her legacy as a courageous and visionary leader would inspire many for years to come.

 

“My thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, colleagues, and the people of Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency,” the Deputy Governor said.

 

She prayed for Allah to accept the good deeds of the late lawmaker, overlook her shortcomings, and grant her Aljannah Firdus.

 

“May Almighty Allah give us all the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” she concluded.
