Spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, has confirmed that suspected cultists killed a former Local Government (LG) councillor.
The Ogun State Police Command has also arrested a suspected cult leader, Abiodun John, identified as the head of the ‘Alora’ cult group, during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Akute/Olambe Road in Ifo Local Government Area.
Omolola Odutola disclosed this in a statement, revealing that John was arrested on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at about 3:30 p.m. following a tip-off from members of the public. The tip raised suspicion about John and another individual traveling in a Venza car with the dealer number URSMOT AUTOS 4657DLA.
Policemen from the Ajuwon Division pursued the vehicle, eventually stopping it in front of the Osaro Mobile Filling Station. During the search, officers found two locally-made pistols and three live cartridges in John’s possession.
“A suspect, identified as Abiodun John, a 25-year-old male from the Olori area of Akute, was arrested, while another suspect remains at large,” Odutola stated.
The Ogun State Police Command has transferred the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Eleweran for further investigation.
