The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has emphasized the importance of sustainable waste management as she declared open a workshop on industrial waste management. The event, organized by the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), was held on behalf of the state governor, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun CON.
Speaking at the workshop, Salako-Oyedele highlighted Ogun State’s pivotal role as Nigeria’s industrial hub, noting the significant contributions of its factories, plants, and processing facilities to economic growth and national development.
However, she stressed that the rapid pace of industrialization demands a corresponding commitment to addressing its environmental and public health impacts.
“Industrialization brings immense benefits, but it also creates challenges that cannot be ignored,” she said. “Poor management of industrial waste leads to polluted air, contaminated water, and degraded soil, jeopardizing the health of our people and the environment. It is vital that we adopt sustainable practices to safeguard the future of our industries and ecosystems.”
The deputy governor stated that under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun, the state has made remarkable progress in waste and environmental management. She noted that the state government’s efforts reflect a commitment to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Ogun State for current and future generations.
The workshop aimed to bring stakeholders together to discuss practical solutions for industrial waste management, ensuring that Ogun State maintains its position as a leader in both industrial growth and environmental responsibility.
