Gafar Asaolu, the personal assistant to Ladi Adebutu, a former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has been detained by the police.

Asaolu’s arrest followed allegations of leading an attack on the vice chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikenne Local Government, Hon. Muhammed Olaitan Efuwape, during Saturday’s local government elections in the state, as well as one Biola.

Hon. Efuwape reportedly survived with injuries, but Biola sustained severe leg injuries after gunfire allegedly involving policemen hired illegally by Adebutu from Lagos and PDP thugs. Biola was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Asaolu is currently held at the Eleweran headquarters of the Ogun State Police Command, where he was brought in by his lawyer before being detained.

Adebutu himself had previously been arrested by both the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police concerning the incident.
