Gov. Adeleke Approves N75,000 Minimum Wage for Osun Workers

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved a minimum wage of N75,000 for civil servants in the state.

This was confirmed by Christopher Arapasopo, the Osun State chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), through a statement issued on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

According to Arapasopo, Governor Ademola Adeleke made the approval on Tuesday.

The statement read, “The Organised Labour in Osun State and the Government, after extensive discussions, have agreed on N75,000 as the new minimum wage for the state.”

This development comes after prolonged negotiations between the Osun State Government and Organised Labour, following the Federal Government’s approval of a new minimum wage of N70,000 in July 2024.

Osun State joins other states in the country that have announced minimum wages exceeding the Federal Government’s approved N70,000.

On Monday, Hyacinth Alia, the Governor of Benue State, also announced a new minimum wage of N75,000 for civil servants in his state.

Tersoo Kula, Alia’s Chief Press Secretary, confirmed that the new minimum wage will take effect in November.

Governor Alia, following a meeting with labour representatives, also promised to clear the remaining three months of the five-month backlog of arrears as outlined in the 2024 budget.

“We are implementing a new national minimum wage of seventy-five thousand naira (N75,000). This decision was made with careful consideration of the concerns raised by organised labour during negotiations,” Alia said.

“These concerns included the existing minimum wage of thirty thousand naira, wage increments, transport allowances, tax relief, and work-off days. Recall that the President approved N70,000, which we chose to exceed in light of our discussions with organised labour regarding affordability.”
