DSS Denies Hon. Ladi Adebutu Bail, PDP Confirms Detention

In a developing story, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, a prominent leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has been detained by the Department of State Services (DSS). Adebutu, who represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019, also served as the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 Ogun State elections.

Following the 2023 general elections, Adebutu has faced legal challenges, including charges related to vote-buying. Allegations surfaced that he distributed preloaded ATM cards to voters during the gubernatorial polls, which led to his arraignment by the police.

Despite these ongoing issues, he has consistently denied any wrongdoing and has been involved in court proceedings addressing the accusations.

His recent detention is reportedly connected to his alleged role in the recently concluded local government elections in Ogun State.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Arc. Kayode Adebayo, confirmed the situation and stated that efforts are underway to secure Adebutu’s release. Attempts to obtain bail on personal recognition or via a surety have so far been unsuccessful, with legal actions expected to continue on Tuesday.

Adebutu has urged his supporters to remain calm, emphasizing that this is a temporary setback and part of the challenges faced in a democratic society. The PDP leadership has echoed this call, asking members to maintain peace while they work to resolve the matter.
