Breaking: Petrol Tanker Explosion Destroys Properties in Ogun State

An early morning petrol tanker fire on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has plunged the residents of Ibafo, Ogun State, into a state of shock. The blaze, which broke out on Wednesday, destroyed numerous vehicles, homes, and livestock, leaving several people injured.

According to witnesses, the tanker’s driver, transporting petrol, dozed off, causing the vehicle to topple over in front of a local bank. The resulting fuel spill ignited, sending flames racing through a drainage system and into a community about one kilometer away.

“It was terrifying,” said Wasiu, an observer. “The tanker was swaying before it crashed, and some people tried collecting the spilled fuel before the fire started.”

Tunde Adewumi, a local resident, recounted the chaos: “People were fast asleep when the fire spread, leading to widespread panic. Fortunately, the drainage system limited the extent of the damage.”

 

Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the accident, noting that the driver was injured and taken to the hospital.
