The Ogun State police command stated on Monday that its Igbeba Division, Ijebu-Ode, apprehended Shedrack Olawale Olayemi, who had been on their wanted list for armed robbery and the alleged sexual assault of female students at Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, in July.

SP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the command, announced this in a statement released to the media.

Odutola confirmed that Olayemi was caught after intelligence reports revealed that the 33-year-old suspect had been spotted near the university, where he was attempting to hide his identity.

The statement read, “The Divisional Police Officer of Igbeba Division has apprehended a wanted notorious suspect involved in armed robbery.”

“Based on a tip-off, Olayemi Olawale Shedrack, 33, was spotted in Ijagun attempting to blend into the community, but his identity was quickly confirmed through intelligence, and he was swiftly apprehended.”

“Olayemi has been wanted by the police for armed robbery and rape. He was identified as the main suspect in a crime that took place on July 21, 2024, where he and his accomplice broke into the Royal Villa female accommodation at Tai Solarin University of Education. They robbed the students of valuables such as laptops, iPhones, sports watches, and cash, and he also allegedly assaulted one of the students before fleeing.”

The police stated that a preliminary investigation has commenced, and Olayemi was taken to the Igbeba police station for questioning. He will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, has instructed officers to track down Olayemi’s accomplices. He also urged the Ijagun community to provide credible information to aid in the apprehension of other gang members.
