The Ogun State government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing the state’s tourism sector by partnering with investors to upgrade tourist sites and unlock the sector’s potential. This is expected to boost tourism development in the state.
Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Oluwasesan Fagbayi, made this known while welcoming the delegates of Miss Tourism Africa 2024, representing various countries. The delegates, led by the Founder of Qhue Concept, Mr. Santiago Roberts, were on a tour of the state. Fagbayi noted that their visit highlighted a strong international interest in Ogun’s tourism landscape.
“Ogun State boasts over 60 tourist sites, both privately and government-owned,” Hon. Fagbayi stated, adding that the state is blessed with a rich cultural heritage and traditions. These assets, combined with the tourism potential, could significantly contribute to economic growth. The state also has around 35 cultural activities in its annual Cultural Calendar, designed to promote and preserve its heritage.
Fagbayi emphasized the state’s ongoing commitment to invest in tourism and explained that Ogun operates a combined Culture and Tourism Ministry, which has been effective in promoting both sectors. “I welcome you all to our dear state; you are in a state that is friendly, accommodating, serene, and healthy, with a high level of hospitality. You have made us proud with this visit. I believe this will help to promote Ogun State tourism to the outside world,” Fagbayi said.
He also expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, for efforts to uplift the tourism sector, particularly through the separation of the Federal Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy. According to Fagbayi, this move has allowed each sector to receive the attention it deserves, resulting in positive developments.
Mr. Santiago Roberts, speaking earlier, explained that Ogun State was chosen for the visit due to its rich cultural heritage and the beauty of Abeokuta, the state capital. He highlighted that the tour aimed to showcase Ogun’s tourism potential to representatives from different countries and the global community.
