The Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has expressed his concerns following the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, won the Edo State governorship election held last Saturday.
Governor Fintiri posted on his verified Twitter page on Sunday, stating, “I mourn for Nigeria’s democracy after witnessing the disgraceful Edo governorship election. The @OfficialAPCNg’s efforts to discredit me by falsely alleging I announced results won’t divert attention from the core issue. I simply shared results from INEC’s Irev portal, as compiled by INEC from various Local Government Areas.”
He further commented, “The true embarrassment is APC’s national chairman arriving in Edo by private jet on election day, flouting movement restrictions, while their governors deployed armored escorts to intimidate voters.”
Fintiri added, “This flagrant disregard for democratic principles is the real brigandage. Nigerians are outraged, criticizing @inecnigeria for being compromised and favoring APC. Reports of vote-buying, disrupted collation processes, and suspicious vote counts exceeding accredited voters erode trust in our democracy.”
He concluded, “Democracy is indeed under siege. We must denounce this assault on democratic processes and call for accountability. The world is watching, and Nigeria deserves better.”
The governor’s statement has sparked significant reactions from his supporters and followers on social media.
