A man identified as Ogidan Mustapha has been taken into custody by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly mutilating the corpse of a 13-year-old girl, Oriyomi Adegboyega, his neighbour, in Sagamu Local Government Area.

According to reports, Mustapha was apprehended around 1:30 am on Friday while trying to dispose of the remains near the Igbosoro River in Igode village. The girl’s body, wrapped in a mat, was found with its hands severed.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest, explaining that it was based on intelligence received from another security agency. She also noted that three others were detained for assisting in digging the grave.

The girl’s mother, Peace Adegboyega, reported that her daughter had died from electrocution at 10:20 am on Thursday. She was surprised to learn that Mustapha had been caught with the dismembered body, as burial arrangements were already being made.

A search of Mustapha’s house reportedly revealed two English pump-action rifles and various charms.

Odutola further stated: “A sister security agency provided intelligence, which led to the arrest of Ogidan Mustapha at around 1:30 am on September 20, 2024, near Igbosoro River, where he was found disposing of the corpse.”

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the body belonged to Oriyomi Adegboyega, a 13-year-old girl whose hands had been amputated.

When questioned, Mustapha denied mutilating the body. He claimed that the girl’s father, Sunday Adegboyega, had asked him to help bury her far from their home.

The suspects were handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiries and possible charges.
