Twist of Events: EFCC Denies Yahaya Bello’s Custody, Confirms He Remains Wanted

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted recent media reports claiming that former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is in their custody.

In a statement released by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media & Publicity, on September 18, 2024, the Commission clarified that Bello is not currently being held by the EFCC.

The EFCC further confirmed that Bello, who is wanted in connection with alleged money laundering charges amounting to N80.2 billion, remains at large.

The warrant for his arrest is still in effect, and the Commission continues its efforts to bring him to justice.

This clarification follows ongoing public interest in the case, as the former governor faces multiple allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure.

The EFCC urges the public to disregard the incorrect reports and stay updated with official statements regarding the matter.
