IBB, OBJ, Abdulsalami, Ex-military Heads Meet in Minna

Three of Nigeria’s former military leaders gathered privately in Minna, Niger State, yesterday, to deliberate on the nation’s security landscape and political developments.

The closed-door session was held at the hilltop residence of ex-military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB).

Attending were ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, and former National Security Adviser, General Aliyu Gusau.

Sources indicated that Babangida and the other generals awaited Obasanjo’s arrival at the mansion before beginning talks.

While no official statement was released, it’s believed the discussion addressed escalating security concerns nationwide.

Another issue reportedly raised was the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) refusal to endorse a peace agreement ahead of the September 21, 2024, Edo governorship election.

The meeting, which lasted two hours, concluded with Obasanjo returning to Abuja.

He arrived at Bola Ahmed Tinubu Airport around 4:30 PM via a Gulfstream 5 aircraft, thought to be chartered for the occasion.

After the talks, Obasanjo departed Minna at approximately 6:30 PM in the same aircraft, escorted by Niger State government protocol officers.

Obasanjo left Minna at around 7 PM, bound for Abuja.
