NNPCL Begins Petrol Lifting from Dangote Refinery as Pricing Uncertainty Looms

The first set of trucks from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) has successfully transported Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly referred to as petrol, from the Dangote Refinery.

News Direct reported on Saturday that in preparation for the commencement of petrol lifting from the 650,000 barrels per day facility, over 100 trucks from NNPCL had already arrived at the refinery.

It should be noted that Zacch Adedeji, a member of the Presidential Committee on Crude Oil and Refined Product Sales and Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), confirmed on Friday that NNPCL remains the sole buyer of petrol from Dangote Refinery. He also mentioned that other products, like diesel, are open for willing off-takers to lift.

According to Adedeji, NNPCL will distribute to other independent marketers after acquiring the petrol from the refinery. He further stated that from October 1, the oil corporation will begin selling crude oil to the Dangote Refinery in Naira.

While petrol lifting has officially begun, uncertainties persist regarding a potential drop in pump prices, as both NNPCL and Dangote Refinery have remained silent on pricing details.

On September 3, during the official rollout of petrol from the refinery, Aliko Dangote emphasized that pricing decisions rest with NNPCL, but assured that the refinery’s products would be available in the market.
