Ogun LG Elections: Labour Party Outlines Strategy for Success

The Ogun State branch of the Labour Party (LP) is taking steps to resolve internal challenges ahead of the upcoming local government polls, aiming to improve its chances of securing several positions.

LP called on its members and interest groups to unite and build a strong front for a successful council election campaign.

This followed a meeting in Abeokuta, led by the party’s Southwest leadership, emphasizing the importance of presenting a cohesive and formidable team to win seats.

In a statement from the State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tokunbo Peters, the party criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both federal and state levels for failing to better the lives of Nigerians.

It mentioned that the people of Ogun State were seeking change due to the hardships, poverty, and frustration caused by APC’s unfavorable policies.

The statement highlighted that LP was viewed as the sole credible option to deliver leadership and effective governance for grassroots development.

Those seeking to contest in the council elections under the LP banner must meet specific criteria to participate in the party’s primaries. These include submitting a letter of interest, completing a nomination form within the set timeframe, and paying the required nomination fees. Aspirants must be at least 30 years old and hold a minimum of a Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE).
