Imo PDP Condemns Rising Gunmen Attacks, Criticizes Uzodinma’s Inaction

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has strongly condemned recent attacks by unidentified gunmen on the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area (LGA) headquarters, where security personnel were killed.

It also criticized the burning of the Obowo LGA Divisional Police Headquarters and the murder of a policeman in his residence near the NEPA junction in Umulogho community, within the same LGA.

In a statement by the State Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiaku, he remarked, “Our party asserts that the ongoing senseless attacks on public assets and the loss of innocent lives are inexcusable and have no place in our nation’s values.”

“We express our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the victims, and indeed, all Imo residents who have been plunged into profound sorrow and grief.”

Obiaku lamented the lack of preventive measures to address the continuous violence in the State, calling on the APC-led administration under Governor Hope Uzodinma to step up and cease being passive in responding to the State’s security crisis.

The PDP’s spokesperson further accused the Governor of not acting swiftly to curb the violence, leading to a normalization of killings and arson, giving attackers the freedom to operate, and turning the State into a battleground of chaos and bloodshed.

“Amidst this devastation and loss of life, the only thing we hear from Governor Uzodinma and Imo APC are updates on their secretive primary elections for local government polls.”

“Strangely, in a leaked video, the Governor, while addressing his APC allies behind closed doors, claimed to be fully aware of everything happening in all the LGAs,” Obiaku added.

He criticized the Governor, stating, “He occupies a high office but remains inactive while these attackers continue taking the lives of innocent citizens.”

“For them, governance is irrelevant—lives can be lost, Imo can be engulfed in flames, and people can starve for all they care,” he concluded.
