Police in Edo State have detained a 19-year-old native doctor, Timothy Dauda, for allegedly shooting his client, Alex Ezekiel, dead during a “bulletproof” charm test.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.
Yamu reported that the incident took place on August 20 in Onumu Community, near Igara, in the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state. He stated that the suspect was apprehended by officers from the Igarra Divisional Police Station in Akoko-Edo.
According to NAN, the suspect claimed to be an expert in creating charms intended to protect against bullets and machete cuts. A source revealed that the deceased had visited the native doctor’s home to acquire the charm.
The source added that, in an unexpected twist, Dauda attempted to demonstrate the charm’s effectiveness by shooting the client with a gun. Unfortunately, the charm failed, resulting in fatal injuries.
“He was rushed to a hospital in Igarra, where a doctor pronounced him dead,” the source added.
Meanwhile, the police spokesman indicated that the suspect would be prosecuted once investigations are concluded. (NAN)
