In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, operatives of the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 48 suspected internet fraudsters in Umudike, Abia State.
The arrests were made on Friday, August 30, 2024, at various locations across Umudike, following actionable intelligence regarding their alleged involvement in internet fraud.
The EFCC, in a statement released on its official Twitter account, detailed that the suspects were apprehended with numerous items believed to be connected to their illegal activities.
Among the seized items were 12 exotic cars, 15 laptops of various brands, and 68 high-end smartphones.
The EFCC has indicated that the suspects will face legal proceedings once investigations are complete. The Commission remains committed to its mission of combating financial crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice.
