Officers of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have apprehended a Nigerian Navy personnel, Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, in connection with the death of Aminu, son of former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim (retired).
According to Daily Post, Muhammad is alleged to have killed Aminu and stolen his Prado SUV about two weeks ago in Maitama, Abuja.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh, provided the update on Wednesday while presenting several suspects in Abuja. He confirmed that the suspected killer was apprehended and the stolen vehicle recovered.
CP Igweh stated that during a routine stop-and-search operation, officers encountered the suspect driving a black Prado SUV.
He further explained that when questioned, the suspect could not provide a satisfactory explanation regarding how he acquired the vehicle.
“Police officers took him into custody, and preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was a Nigerian Navy seaman on guard duty at the residence of a retired naval officer. The vehicle belonged to the late Aminu Ibrahim, son of Admiral I. Ibrahim (retired), a former Chief of Naval Staff, who was murdered, and his Prado SUV stolen on 18/08/2024 on River Benue Street, Maitama.
“While in detention, the suspect attempted to flee but was swiftly recaptured.
“The suspect willingly confessed to being part of a three-man gang specializing in armed robbery and stealing luxury vehicles, which are then sold outside the FCT.
“They have conducted three successful operations so far. Efforts are underway to capture the remaining gang members currently at large.”
