President Bola Tinubu has directed the production of a new line of specialized assault rifles for the Nigerian military, named BAT-1.
This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation’s defense capabilities and tackle modern security threats.
President Tinubu made this announcement during the 60th anniversary of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) and the inaugural Africa Defence Industries Conference in Abuja.
He was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume.
The President emphasized that DICON has the potential to become a key player in Africa’s defense industry.
He stated, “Industrialization and innovation are essential for national growth, though capital-intensive. My administration is committed to significantly investing in DICON to ensure it meets its mandate effectively within the 2030 roadmap.”
“The enhanced capabilities from this strategy will play a crucial role in strengthening our defense infrastructure, promoting peace, and fostering prosperity in our nation.”
President Tinubu highlighted that the newly automated production lines for various ammunition types, Mine Resistant Ambush Patrol Vehicles, Armoured Personnel Carriers, drones, and unmanned ground vehicles will equip the armed forces with advanced tools designed to address contemporary challenges.
